CURRENT TOPICAL KEYWORD RANKINGS

Keywords are the terms we target to increase the visibility of your website. Each Keyword should reflect a key topic on your website and by targeting that topical keyword, we expect to see a growth in visibility for variations of those keywords. For example, if we were to target ‘SEO Company’ we would expect to see an increase in visibility for related terms such as ‘SEO Agency’, ‘Companies that do SEO’ and ‘Search Engine Optimisation Companies’ among other related queries. By showing the current ranking of each targeted keyword compared to the keywords ranking in the previous month, you should be able to get a general idea on how you’re performing for the topic area we are targeting.

WHAT DOES AVERAGE KEYWORD POSITION MEAN?

Average Keyword Position is an indication of how well the list of keywords we are targeting/tracking is performing overall. It’s calculated by taking the average of all the keywords we are targeting/tracking. With keywords out of the top 100 being assigned a default value of 101.

Improvements in this mean, generally everything is going well. However, it is important to note that keyword position isn’t everything, to get a full picture you should also look at what search terms you’re being found for and how much traffic you’ve received to your website.

WHAT ARE TAGS?

Tags are how we categorise your topical keywords and we use them to decide what generally the users intent is when they are searching related queries to that topic.

Niche: Niche keywords are considered to be very specific to a searcher’s intent; this can be for a range of reasons such as the searcher knowing industry lingo or that the search indicates that they are seeking a particular solution or answer to their problem. A niche keyword for MSD would be ‘SEO and Digital Strategy marketing Agencies’

Local: Local keywords are when we know a searcher is seeking results that are relevant to a particular geographical location. A local keyword for MSD would be ‘Digital Marketing Agencies Melbourne’

Branded: Branded keywords are those we consider related to your brand or related to branded products you or your website sells. A branded keyword for MSD would be ‘Mad Scientist SEO Services’

General: General keywords are those where the user intent is broad or it is unclear whether they may be seeking information or a particular service. A general keyword for MSD would be ‘Digital Marketing Agency’.

Tracking: Tracking keywords are those keywords we are purely monitoring the performance of, but are not currently targeting
